Music and its surroundings.
George Maund is a researcher, music artist, and superfan of the possibilities of sound.
In radio, he co-presented the alternative/specialist programme The Popular Music Show on BBC Merseyside from 2017 until 2023. As a performing and recording artist he co-founded the experimental group Ex-Easter Island Head, appearing on their original three 'Mallet Guitars' albums. He has written and toured with a.P.A.t.T. and Stig Noise Sound System, and played in various ephemeral/esoteric music projects. George has played in and programmed live music venues encompassing club nights, festival stages, a repurposed carpark, storage area, and an active passenger railway station. He most recently spent four years at an arts and culture charity organisation specialising in socially engaged practice. His interests include the importance of unconventional locations in the setting of experimental musics.
Presently, George is undertaking an MRes in Music (musicology) at the University of Liverpool. He is a member of the band Landscraper.
His current area of research is into a history of 'sidestream' music in early 21st century Liverpool (UK), focussing on the years 2005-2015. Part of this will look at unorthodox and unofficial performance places, the ways that archives of the 2000s can be preserved, and narratives around the idea of what music culture is and can be.
